Photography Policy

13/07/17

We would just like to remind all Surrey Basketball players, coaches, team managers and parents of our policies around film and photography at our junior events.

The issue of filming at games and events managed by the SBA came up during our AGM in July and the executive committee was asked to clarify it's position as Basketball England recently updated theirs. You will find below our guidelines and where possible, we will challenge any person filming or taking photos at an SBA event. However, in today's digital age, every parent or spectator has a device capable of recording images. So we also ask everyone be vigilant in following our rules, encouraging others who have not heard them and challenging those that need to be.

Our objective is simple, to protect the privacy of our young players but we appreciate activity may want to be recorded for future reference.

Our current policy:

"In line with the recommendations in the Basketball England Safeguarding Policy, the Surrey Basketball Association requests that anyone wishing to engage in any video, zoom or close range photography in which a child may be clearly identified should register their details with the game Commissioner before carrying out such photography, and speak to the coach of both teams to seek their permission."

There will be registration sheets on the day for you to record your name and details and we encourage you to volunteer this information first. We then ask that you quickly chat it through with the opposition coach to make sure no one objects.
